ALL SAINTS’ DAY: TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 1
All Saints’ Day is one of the seven principal feast days (days of
celebration) in the church year. The other major feast days are: Easter,
Christmas, Epiphany, Ascension, Pentecost and Trinity. All Saints’ Day is always
on November 1. All Saints’ Day developed as a time to celebrate that the Church
is made up of the whole communion of saints, both the living and the dead.
At St. Mary’s, we will celebrate All Saint’s Day with a festive Holy Eucharist on Tuesday, November 1 at 7:00 p.m. At this Eucharist, we will have:
A Wall of Remembrance, where the names of those saints who have gone before us will be placed on a wall in the nave/worship area. Children will have an opportunity to add names to the wall, in connection with the Sunday school time the Sunday before.
Necrology Reading, a reading of the names of those who have died from November 1, 2004 to November 1, 2005. If you have a loved one who has died in the last year and you would like to have them included in the necrology, please call or email (stmarycyp@houston.rr.com) the church office.
Tolling of the Bell, when, as each name is read in the necrology, the bell outside will toll.
Festive Music, including the traditional All Saints’ hymns, such as For All the Saints and I Sing a Song of the Saints of God.
Reception after the Service, where wine, cheese and non-alcoholic punch will be served, as well as traditional All Saints’/All Souls’ Day foods.
All Saints’ Day is a time to celebrate all the people, living and dead, who are in God’s holy family. All Saints’ Day is a celebration that you will not want to miss; so, please join us on Tuesday, November 1 to sing a song of the saints of God.
